Food Bank Volunteer Activity, Oct. 1, 2011
Chicago Young Professionals Nathan Schurr, Aaron Matthews, Janet Chu, Jon Haughton, Luisa Flechas and Jessica Swary volunteered at the brand new Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) facility in Geneva, IL. The volunteers help to unpack and organize backpacks for the NIFB BackPack Program. This program provides these backpacks filled with 10 lbs. of nutritious foods to needy children every Friday at several Chicago area schools.


Des Plaines Public
Library Science Expo, Sept. 24, 2011
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) hosted a table at this year’s Des Plaines Public Library Science Expo, an annual event designed to expose 2nd-8th graders to various sciences. Chicago Young Professionals Luisa Flechas, Matt Moy, Hussam Eltayeb, Nathan Schurr and Jessica Swary spoke to students about chemical engineering and the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in their everyday jobs.

This round table will facilitate discussion amongst chemical engineers regarding the unique problems of travel including some basic advice for young engineers from more seasoned travelers.
